Job Description:

Do you have what it takes to write world-class software documentation? Can you organize and translate technical terms into text that end-users can easily understand? ERDAS is seeking an experienced technical writer to join an agile team developing Java/J2EE geospatial server products for web mapping, enterprise spatial data management, and geoprocessing. As a technical writer for the server development team(s), you’ll be responsible for writing and editing end-user documentation that includes theory, on-line help, tutorials, administration and configuration guides, how-to guides, and other end-user documentation.

Major Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain online help, installation and configuration guides, tutorials and how-to documentation for customers, partners and end-users of ERDAS server products
As an integral part of a cross-functional development team, observe production and development activities to determine operating procedures, and learn products by hands-on experience
Confer with product managers, software engineers, QA engineers to determine subject material for development and publication
Complete writing assignments according to organizational standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
Select and/or generate photographs, drawings, sketches, charts to illustrate material
Review and proof documentation for technical content and grammatical accuracy, recommend changes in scope, format, content and/or structure
Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, working independently and with other writers

Knowledge/Skills Required:

Bachelor’s level degree, preferably in English or Communications
3-5 years experience writing technical and/or end-user documentation for software products
Strong organization and communication skills (both written and verbal)
Highly motivated individual able to grasp complex software and learn quickly
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Working knowledge of FrameMaker a plus
Working knowledge of Webworks ePublisher a plus
Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS), geography and and/or image processing a plus
