ERDAS Recognized as Best in the Industry in India following Successful UGM
January 25, 2010
Norcross, GA —Last week, ERDAS received two significant awards at the Map India Conference. These awards followed the company’s successful ERDAS User Group Meeting (UGM) in Gurgaon, with over 475 users from various market segments participating in the event.
At Map India 2010, ERDAS was recognized as the “Best Remote Sensing/Image Processing Company” and “Best Photogrammetry Company” . Delegates attending the conference were asked to vote on these awards.
In 2007, ERDAS opened its India headquarters in Gurgaon, India, strengthening the company’s technical support and application services for customers in the region. Since then, ERDAS has expanded its operations with staff in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Chennai, Pune and Dehradun, building customized and localized geospatial solutions, meeting the needs of this rapidly expanding market.
The India UGM took place on January 18, 2010. This event was a part of the ERDAS Rocks World Tour supporting the company’s 2010 software release. The UGM provided an opportunity for users to interact with industry peers, view product demonstrations and participate in technical discussions on geospatial technologies. Attendees heard presentations from members of the management team at ERDAS, as well as presentations from the Department of Science & Technology, National Informatics Centre, Dept of Space, Geological Survey of India, OGC, DigitalGlobe, Oracle and many others. GIS Development was the official media partner for the event, which took place prior to the Map India Conference.
“It was nice to see a wide user base at the UGM. ERDAS IMAGINE and ERDAS APOLLO 2010 include technical functions relevant to the requirements projected by the National GIS project,” said Dr. Vandana Sharma, Deputy Director General, National Informatics Centre (NIC). “The growing value of spatial data in the country requires continuous deliberation on open standards. The UGM provided an excellent platform to share views on issues relating to geospatial technology and its deployment for e-governance initiatives. I am encouraged by the company’s deployment of OGC standards and look forward to many more UGMs.”
“I was impressed by how the ERDAS UGM was professionally organized. It was exciting to be a part of this event – the content and the information shared were very informative,” said Dr. K M Reddy, Director General, AP State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (APSRAC). “The new interface of ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 is very intuitive and will definitely improve our organization’s productivity and performance. Since ERDAS APOLLO 2010 is based on open-standards of OGC/ISO, and interoperability concepts, I am confident that this is going to benefit and strengthen the HMRI (104 services in AP) project, which we have recently initiated."
“The UGM was very well organized, informative and interactive, said Maj Gen Rajesh Pant VSM, Additional Director General, Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS). “We are excited about the product enhancements in change detection and the new ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 ribbon user interface.”
