ERDAS licensing does not support system IDs from virtual machines. ERDAS licensing is based upon unique system identifiers, and the virtual network adapters are not sufficiently unique. ERDAS software may be installed onto a virtual machine, but it must use a floating license from an actual (non-virtual) license server. Running a license server on a virtual machine is not supported.
ERDAS Software 2011 (pertains to all software released October 2008 and after)
-
In Windows, go to Start > All Programs > ERDAS 2011 > ERDAS-Net Licensing 2011 > Show System ID
-
You will see all available system ID options, depending upon hardware configurations and installed types of hardware keys. Select and copy the system ID you wish to use.
- If not using a hardware key, select one of the available options.
-
Local Area Connection is the most common option, and is recommended.
-
In general, a Wireless Network Connection is not recommended unless it is your usual connection to the Internet.
-
If you are using a laptop with a docking station and you are using the Local Area Connection system ID, please select the option presented to you when the laptop is out of the docking station, so that the computer’s native Local Area Connection is used.
-
If using a hardware key (dongle), please select either the SafeNet Dongle or the FLEXnet ID Dongle as the source.
-
In Sun Solaris and Linux, open a terminal window and run ./LicAdmin and select System > Show Sysid. Hardware keys are not supported on Linux or Sun Solaris.
For ERDAS Software 2009 and higher, the system IDs are different from the old 14-digit standard system IDs of the version-9.2-and-earlier license system.
| ID Source | Old ERDAS System ID | ERDAS-Net System ID |
| SafeNet Dongle | d1fb3ad2xxxxfb | erdasnet=3ad2xxxx |
| CPU ID | d2xxxxxxxxxxxx | N/A |
| Local Area Connection | d3xxxxxxxxxxxx | xxxxxxxxxxxx |
| Hard Disk | d4xxxxxxxxxxxx | N/A |
| SPARC Hostid | a1ffxxxxxxxxff | xxxxxxxx |
| FLEXid Dongle | N/A | FLEXID=9-xxxxxxxxx |

Note 1. Where x is equal to any alpha-numeric character.
-
Note 2. System IDs are not case sensitive. Spaces are not permitted. It is always best to copy-and-paste from the license manager's Show System ID dialog.
Software not installed yet? No problem. Please use the system ID utility. This is a simple stand-alone utility for generating system IDs without the need to install the main software first. The utility is a simple executable which, when loaded on a workstation or server, will report the system ID exactly as if the license manager were installed.
