I checked this with the developer of this tool, and he said there should not be any limitation for input file size. This tool is implemented by eml and sml script.
Note, this tool is designed for WV-2 data (8bands), but we have used it successfully on other types of data.
If you are using this tool interactively (not in batch), then this tool can work for image with more than 8 bands. If you are using this tool in batch mood for image with more than 8 bands, you need to add more files. Here is how:
In $IMAGINE_HOME/etc/models, see the files hcs-3_band_definitions.pmdl through hcs-8_band_definitions.pmdl.
Run on a 12 band file would require a file hcs-12_band_definitions.pmdl to be present.
You can run this in GUI mode first, then copy these .pmdl from temp folder to $IMAGINE_HOME/etc/models, then run batch. In this way, batch will find all resources it need.
